It is heart-breaking both to Ed Boone, and to the reader that the conclusion that Christopher comes up with is delusional. Christopher’s inability to communicate and empathize with others leads to major problems with his social skills. Unlike most people, Christopher does not hristopher has very erratic behaviour in most social situations. This is most likely caused by his lack of social abilities. Christopher’s behaviour greatly affects his mother’s well-being which eventually led to her abandonment of their family. One of the letters Christopher found in his father’s closet, written by his mother describes the extent of his behaviour very well. In this letter Judy Boone, Christopher’s mother states that she is â€Å"not a good mother† and that â€Å"she is not patient enough for him† (106). She recalls a time in which the two of them went Christmas shopping and Christopher’s behaviour was irrational. Christopher had become frightened by all the people in the busy store and had decided to crouch down and cover his ears. To cope he also started screaming which embarrassed his mother greatly. (107). Another example of Christopher’s erratic behaviour was on the train ride to London. He was afraid of the public and the policeman who was trying to bring him back to his Father. He coped with the hectic train ride by crouching in the shelves opposite the bathroom and solving quadratic equations in his head (163). To a person without Asperger Syndrome, this is a very irrational and senseless thing to do, but for Christopher it is completely logical. Christopher has great difficulty with communicating due to the fact that he cannot understand facial expressions and social queues. (McRae and Ruppel, 2011) Europe – Dependence on Imports While dependency rates between EU nations varies, the EU imported 54.1% of its gross energy consumption in 2010 (European Commission, 2012), indicating great dependence on seller nations (primarily Russia, Nigeria, Algeria, Qatar and Norway). The EU receives almost 50% of its gas by pipeline, and LNG continues to support the Iberian Peninsula. Diversification of supply is a high priority. This will cause an eastward shift of the global gas supply chain, (Mitchell, 2012) and may shine a brighter light of scrutiny on Asia’s standards of conduct that might not be in line with a Western sense of decency. The results of such confrontation on natural gas markets are impossible to predict. One thing we can be sure of is that natural gas as a commodity is more than just a tool by which we power our machines or heat our homes. Natural gas is a gift to the world that if used correctly, can drastically improve the human experience for a great many people. Whether buyer and seller nations can be pragmatic about international trade agreements, use the proceeds to grow internal economies, and establish transparency in the marketplace are the metrics by which we will know if this resource is being put to good use or merely squandered.
